Welcome to my online portfolio. This online portfolio represents my journey through the University of Georgia's Educational Leadership add-on certification program. My educational background, willingness to learn, accept new ideas, and my ability to adapt to change, and work with others has provided me with a wealth of experiences which led me to this program at the University of Georgia.
My journey in education began on August 29, 1985 in the New Orleans Public Schools. On August 29, 2005, my journey took a detour when the levees breached during Hurricane Katrina. I lost every material thing that I owned, and I lost the familiar place that had become my second home, Thomas Alva Edison Elementary School. For a day or two I felt helpless, but I never felt hopeless thanks to the many people who assisted me during that difficult time. Thanks to the support and encouragement from my parents who had also lost their home. Thanks to my husband, sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. Thanks to the many people whom I have never met in St. Louis, Missouri, Phoenix, Arizona, and employees of Sports Authority in Pensacola, Florida and Jacada in Atlanta, Georgia who provided assistance, shelter, and encouragement to me. Thank you Mrs. Rosemary Martin for providing me with a wealth of experiences that prepared me well, and thank you to my late friend Brenda Harvey who encouraged me to the very end. These people believed in me, and today I have completed my add-on certification in Educational Leadership, a journey that started in New Orleans, survived Katrina’s destruction, and continues in Georgia. Last but not least, I would like to thank my son, Jamal. It is because of you that I am able to maintain my vision despite life’s obstacles. Son, you are a sign of my strength, determination, and focus. Remember the 3 Ps, purpose, process, and payoff, and never give up.
